About Hyuk

I am a classically trained pianist and have a wide range of public performance and teaching experience. I started piano at the age of 8 but quickly gave up as I did not have the interest nor lessons that inspired me. I requested to learn piano again at the age of 10, and this time I was determined to progress and become a professional musician

I have been invited to give public performances in the United Kingdom, Greece and Hungary. My 2016 performance of the Kapustin Piano Sonata No.1 in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland was reviewed as a “knockout performance” in The Herald Scotland. Aside from performing, I also enjoy giving lessons to students who wish to develop their piano playing further.

Education

I received my Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2017, and I was under the tutelage of Petras Geniuša. During my studies there, I have learnt how to approach the piano from many different angles and the importance of keeping the music fresh for yourself. After finishing my studies at the RCS, I decided to settle down in Sheffield.

Teaching approach

My lesson plans are tailored according to individual needs as I believe every one progresses in a different manner. Learning music should be an enjoyable experience. I aim to provide the student the joy of making music and playing an instrument by respecting what they like to learn and play and by avoiding overly focusing on the mechanical side of piano playing.

I have worked with both beginner and advanced students in the past and am happy to help students prepare for their ABRSM or Trinity exams if needed.
